NBC/WSJ: Plurality Opposes Public Option

From NBC here. Key findings:

[A]ccording to a brand-new NBC News poll, 47% of Americans — a plurality — oppose the public plan, versus 43% who support it. That’s a shift from last month’s NBC/WSJ poll, when 46% said they backed it and 44% were opposed.

In a follow-up question explaining the benefits and disadvantages associated with a public plan, 45% said they agreed with the description — by supporters — that it would help lower health-care costs and provide coverage for uninsured Americans.

But 48% sided with opponents who say a public option would reduce access to their choice of doctors, and would lower costs by limiting medical treatment options.

UPDATE: The WSJ piece about the poll is here.

The Daily Kos has a liberal-leaning analysis of the poll here, and HotAir.com has a conservative-leaning analysis here.

I agree with you Pedro. Republicans are telling out and out lies. They are fear mongers. Millions includung me do not have health insurance and could not afford to even if offered on the job. End free health care for all politicians. End lobbying. Most people on the right will believe anything and they do not realize insurance companies are spending 1.3 million per day to derail health care reform. They have their comfortable profit and don’t give a damn about the rest of america’s health. Wait till more employers stop providing health care coverage, then listen to those people on the right scream. Why does network news not report the real news? Are they all corporate shills? Instead of Sawyer reporting on American Idol maybe she could be a real newswoman and report the facts on the trouble in Washington. Watch Olberman and Maddow and get the real story.

I think every person deserves health care and there are many that cannot afford it. Those that are sincerely and truly in need should be helped. The problem is, how do we seperate those who truly need it from those who spend their money on drugs, gambling and booze and good times and then want us to supply them with health care.

You’re right on! I remember when I used to be on welfare I would laugh when I saw a mother in line with her kids, collecting food stamps, meanwhile her hair was done all up and she had on all this gold jewelery. BTW she pulled up in a car with wheels on it that cost more than the car itself. Tsk tsk!

What do you think is “BULL”? Please clarify your point, because we are not mind readers.

    • Shayes says:

Public opinion is NOT with Obama’s health care plan. Had that been the case then it would have passed by now, like Obama promised. Oops! Looks like another empty promise made by Obama. America is waking up and she doesn’t like what she sees.

Your wrong Pedro. Any American in thier right mind should oppose the plan. I pay dearly for my own insurance and really don’t feel like paying for yours. Maybe you should work hard and get your own insurance. I don’t want anyone including the government paying for anything for me. You probably want it so your illegal alien family member can get some more welfare from our tax dollars

    • Wanda says:

I’m sure you pay dearly for your own health insurance, insurance that you may lose if you become ill and will definitely lose if you get fired or laid off. I sincerely hope that if you lose your health insurance because of circumstances beyond your control, that some judgmental, insensitive jerk doesn’t tell you that you deserved to not possess health insurance.

In case you haven’t noticed, Sam C., America is one of the most diverse nations in the world. Just because his name is “Pedro” doesn’t mean he and his family live here illegally.

Sam C.’s brain has been manipulated by people that stand to make a profit from the insurance, that he thinks he’ll have 4/ever…..
maby after he retiers and jups on the goverment insurance band wagon,
he’ll get it in to he’s thick skull (epiphany) that he’s getting screwd now
while he’ pays “dearly” for his insurance!
Sam C.: you are a racist idiot!!!!

I do not have insurance at this time and it is hard to go to the dr if I am sick. However, people do not realize that on government ins it will be just as hard to go. I think congress needs to take time to come up with a better option. Trust me I i have had government ins before and the quality of care u get is really bad. People who can afford private ins will get best care. MAYBE we should not expect a hand out.

    • Wanda says:

Michelle, I’ve definitely heard mixed reviews about public health insurance options that are available. It’s true that some people have had problems with government-run plans such are Medicare and Medicaid; however, it’s mostly because each individual state has different policies and different ways of handing out funds.

I think the credibility you bring about the debate on health insurance reform is vital, however. Your experience brings about questions that should be asked and answered if our society truly wants to change the health care system so it actually works for everybody.
